The Foundation of St. Gemma Galgani’s efforts are to empower our Catholic youth to make a difference in their lives by furthering their education. Our main objective is to offer undergraduate interest-free loans and scholarships.

Program recipients must be:

  • A practicing Catholic
  • Registered at a Catholic Parish located within Montgomery County, Maryland
  • Actively participating in one or more of your parish’s ministries or parish recognized religious organization’s ministries during the last 6 months

Volunteer

The Foundation of St. Gemma Galgani efforts are inspired to empower our youth to make a difference in their lives; provide financial assistance for our Catholic youth to further their education by attending college; and help promote Catholic Values. We have a great need for volunteers to achieve these goals and our unique mission.   We are actively seeks individuals who are interested in getting involved and being part of the success in “Investing in our Catholic Youth”. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Board Members – Serve on the board and manage a standing committee to perform activities associated with the offer and award of Undergraduate Interest-free loans and Scholarships to Catholic youth. This would include individuals with backgrounds and experiences in financial management (banking, loan processing, bookkeeping, and compliance), fundraising, program management, communications, secretarial or organizational skills, event planning, outreach, and recruitment.
  • Volunteer Management – Assist with volunteer recruitment, placement, record keeping and recognition.
  • Foundation Board Advisor –Provide expertise or services in the areas of Legal, Education, Banking and Loans, Non-profit Tax compliance, Social Concerns, or Fundraising.
  • Volunteer in Your Parish – Be the point person for the coordination of outreach, communications, fundraising, and meetings with your Pastor and parishioners.
  • Fundraiser – Support fundraising activities at Parishes and Catholic Organizations.
  • Donor/Corporate Sponsorship Writing – Assist the fundraising team as they write donation letters and e-mails, as well as bulk mailings and special event notices.
  • Donor Outreach – Make calls or send mail letters to solicit donations from and to thank donors.
  • Communications/Public Affairs – Prior to College Fall and Spring Semesters, tell the Foundation’s story to your Parish or write an article for publication about the successes of the Foundation.
  • Social Media – Be an online advocate and support telling the mission of the Foundation of St. Gemma Galgani to Parishes, Catholic High Schools, and Catholic Organizations.
  • Clerical – Assist with administrative tasks.
  • Special Events – Plan and Support fundraising and special events.

About Us

While financial aid is readily available from public and private institutional sources, a majority of this aid comes with the financial burden of thousands of dollars in interest over the long term in addition to the re-payment of the principle amount. Additionally, many of our Catholic youth do not have the financial means to attend college full-time, and therefore, balance their time between educational goals and earning an income. Under these circumstances, the slightest crisis can cause financial difficulties that impact or delay the achievement of one’s educational goals. In a worst–case scenario, attending college becomes financially unobtainable.

Mission: To invest in our Catholic youth to attend college and achieve their educational goals.

Our Values: The Foundation’s efforts are inspired by:

  • To empower our youth to make a difference in their lives,
  • To provide financial assistance for our youth to further their education by attending college,
  • To help promote Catholic Values, and
  • To promote the common good.

Objectives:

  • Offer interest-free loans and scholarships to Catholic youth desiring to further their education by earning a college degree or credential.
  • Continue to grow the capacity of the foundation to fund programs by being good stewards of our financial resources.
